A Drive Through Galveston

There’s more to it than the beach and hurricanes haven’t taken out all of the old houses. Here’s a smattering of architectural details; just enough to show that a longer visit is warranted.

Galveston, oh Galveston

Sunday we didn't fly out until 6:30 p.m., so had some more touristing time. Thanks again to Tavia and Matilda for their hospitality. Well maybe not so much to Matilda. I don't know when I've sung so many silly songs and nursery rhymes trying to keep a cranky back-seat partner smiling.

I didn't want to have gone all that way and miss seeing the Gulf of Mexico and touching the waters, so we started the day with a drive out to Galveston.

Flat white sand beach, carnival atmosphere. You can park your car right on the beach.

Tavia had to retrieve her hat when it blew away, and was escorted back by hungry and persistant gulls.

Even the seagulls are different in Texas. Note the black head.

Off-shore drilling rigs on the horizon.

A flock of the naughty gulls.

A very different ocean than what we know on the Pacific Coast.

Houston Zoo

Mandy and I had the day off today, so we played tourist. Tavia took us to the zoo and to the Houston Museum of Natural History.
Here are a few pictures from the zoo (a couple featuring baby Matilda, who was a very good girl).

Travel pictures - Seattle to Houston

 Phone pictures . . .

Breakfast in the SeaTac food court. Terrific views.

The Cascades were clear but then we had solid cloud cover to the east side of the Rockies.

I need a lot more playing with google earth.
