Sunday Dog-Trade Trip

We met Gary & Louise at La Pine State Park. The weather cooperated for a terrific picnic. We took the dogs for a short walk on a trail labeled "Cougar Woods". A very short walk. Then Digger and Styx played water dog and waded around in the Deschutes for a bit. We're making a reservation and going back to this park soon. With something to float on or in. Unlike most of the river, this portion has some big lazy loops great for summer floating as well as for fishing. You will have to imagine the smell of the pine and of the blooming sage.
Below is one of my favorite scenes. I could have stayed there all day. The mountain in the background is the Newberry Crater, where Paulina and East Lake are. On the way home we noticed that the north road through Crater Lake National Park is already open. It's a different world when there is still snow.

On the way home through Shady Cove we had to wait while four young bucks (forked horns) made their way across the road.
Nice to be back in Oregon.
